  1. Everyday millions of people visit video-hosting sites such as YouTube.
  • Why have these sites become so popular? Do you or someone you know whatch these clips? What kind of clips do you watch and why?
  • What makes such sites different than television?
  • How do these clips influence society? Give examples.
Every day millions of people watch video in YouTube. It is necessary to write a topic or event, what you are interested in searcher and necessary material has already found. YouTube  is very popular now, because there we can  find video from any topic: scientific, political, entertainment et cetera. I also sometimes watch clips on this site. Last time I used YouTube, when prepared information to project from the English language.  My task was to  find information about mysteries castle Carew in Wales. And of course, I found a very interesting clip- legend from this topic .YouTube is especially convenient for those who are English language learners, because  the same clip is on the website on both  English and Russian languages. My friends also use YouTube to teach, but often for fun. Fun videos, that spread on site ordinary  users, sometimes is very funny. The difference site from the TV is that any video we can watch at any time, without waiting that information on TV.
2. People are often interested by foreign people and cultures. Which foreign culture do you find the most intriguing?
  • Which tradition from that culture would you like to experience?
  • How has the classical understanding of that culture evolved over time?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of accepting foreign traditions into your own culture?
Off course, the most intriguing foreign culture, in my opinion, is English culture.
Off course, the most intriguing foreign culture, in my opinion, is English culture. English culture is mysterious and magical.  British castles   include a huge amount of secrets. Many legends and myths associated with the ancient inhabitants of these castles, which were wandering lonely  corridors of the Tower, Windsor, Dantrun and others. Poor ghost of Anne Boleyn, who was executed by her husband Henry VII, cannot find peace. Sad ghost of bagpiper in Scottish castle Dantrun hitherto looks its owner. And how many of those executed souls wandering the corridors of the Tower of London, because  executions were performed here. But respect for the British traditions is  not only in the preservation of mysterious legends, but in modern customs, such as the changing of the guard, trooping the colour at the Queen's birthday, 5 o’clock tea and more.
  1. If you could be in any TV Show, which would it be?
  • Would you be a new character or an existing one?
  • How would you introduce yourself into the show?
  • How would your presents affect the plot?
If I had to participate in any   TV show, it would have been intellectual show like "The Cleverest" or "The first million". Such shows broaden the mind; promote the development of mental skills. I would introduce myself as a goal-seeking,  smart  girl who strives for knowledge and victories.  I hope that the public would have been delighted with my profound   knowledge from geography, history, foreign literature. These subjects are very interesting to me, so I read a lot of additional literature from various sources: from books, from the internet, from magazines and more.  The customs and traditions of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are also very interesting to me. And of course I would like to win in this show.
  1. Shakespeare wrote: “All the world’s a stage, and all men and women merely players”.
  • Interpret this statement.
  • Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why or why not?
  • How does this quote apply to your own life?

Indeed sometimes we  turn into actors and portray the joy or sadness, understanding or misunderstanding, indifference, or care, but only when it is necessary for a noble purpose. If not, it is dishonest and mean. For example, it is mean to  portray joy as a friend, but at the same time  thinking  "Why did  he get a luck, and not I?" or portray the care about parents, waiting only that  they  buy or give you something. Sometimes the play  helps us  worthy look to others.. It happens that barely restrains tears, but you have to endure, not to cry, and usually you  have to play. So I think that in real life, the play can be used. But we must distinguish the play from hypocrisy. Hypocrisy leads to moral degradation of personality.
  1.  The world is becoming increasingly urbanized.
  • Why are more and more people living in cities?
  • In the future, do you think people will live in the countryside?
  • Is living in a city a sustainable lifestyle? Explain.

At first let’s clear up what does urbanization mean. Urbanization is the increasing of city population and areas. People move to the cities according to different reasons. At  first it is easier to find out appropriate work in the city, the position of transport is more advantageous there. System of education is more developed and at last in city there is advantageous economic situation. A huge amount shops, supermarkets, schools, hospitals gives opportunity to choose such that will be the most suitable to you in price and quality. Although some people want to live in the countryside, because we know that it is impossible to have a good rest in the city. In the cities and towns we can hear many noises and other negative things. So I think that in the future more and more people will live in the countryside.
  1. Mobile phones have become commonplace in the past decade, and are a useful tool used by nearly everyone. However, mobile phones are occasionally used in inappropriate times and situations.
  • How has the use of mobile phones negatively affected an experience you’ve had?
  • If you could write their guidelines for their use, what would they be?
  • How would society benefit from your guidelines? When is it appropriate to use mobile phones?
Nowadays mobile phone became an integral part of our life. We do not imagine our life without this gadget. As for me, I used to be
What about me, I used to be in touch always . Mobile phone is very convenient because you can carry it everywhere and call whenever you want. Also, friends and parents can always talk to me, to find where I am and how am I, also they can remind about something. I can not imagine how people previously did without mobile phones. But lately, I hear that a mobile phone is harmful to health and cause various diseases including cancer is. This is certainly alarming. In addition, the use of mobile phones is not always appropriate. For example, you can not use the phone during lessons: it interferes with the teacher and other students in the class. As for me, I switch off my phone at the lesson. If I were asked to write instructions on how to use a mobile phone, I would have banned its use at the lesson and at night. At other times you can use the phone, but when it is necessary, because they are still harmful to the body.
  1. Imagine that you are a newspaper reporter. You have the opportunity to interview any person in the world.
  • Who would you choose to interview?
  • How has this person influenced people’s lives?
  • What three questions would you ask first?
A profession of journalist is very interesting and exiting so I can imagine that I’m reporter with pleasure. If I have the opportunity to interview any person in the world I’ll want to interview our Minister of education Mikola Tabachnik. Last time educational programs considerably changed and  as for me  these changes are negative. The material that we must learn is very difficult the authors of textbooks are different so there is not single system of studying. For example English, in the primary school we learn English by Plahotnik’s  textbook, in the fifth form- Nesvit, in the six and in the seven form – Byrkun etc. It is not normal. Now I am a pupil of the tenth form and I have no single textbook generally.  How   M. Tabachnik has influenced people’s life? The answer is very simple. Pupils are the part of our future society and from such things as what and how they will be study depend our future life. What about questions I would like to ask him: when we’ll get new English textbooks, why in our today’s textbooks there are not such tasks as on the external independent marking and why our classrooms are not equipped necessary devices.
  1. Many young people nowadays use social networks like Vkontakte and Facebook to stay in touch with friends and family. However, many critics fear that these sites are costing us too much in terms of privacy and can have a negative impact on users.
  • What are the advantages of using social networking websites?
  • What are possible disadvantages of using such sites?
  • How can people reduce the risk they put themselves in when using sites like Facebook and Vkontakte?
As for me, chatting with friends on social networks is quite convenient and interesting thing. It provides an opportunity to share information, display  photos and make new friends. But of course we must not forget that access to information is free and read it can everybody. So you do not  disclose all the secrets of your private life, or you can limit access to information, making it available only to certain people. I believe that access to personal information to anyone should not be open. It is not always has benefits. Often teenagers trying to express their feelings and attitudes, writing on their pages in social networks   indecent expressions. They forget that these phrases can see not only their friends, but also parents, teachers, grandmothers, grandfathers etc.  And of course it can influence on their attitudes  to you. That’s why we must keep classic’s opinion that a person should be beautiful in everything things :  face, clothes, thoughts, and even a page on the social network.
  1.  Speak about the film that you have seen recently. Give your comments on the story: the title, the main actors, the director, the music, costumes and special effects.
I’d like to tell you about the film “Titanic” I last watched. This film, directed by James Cameron, shows a destruction of legendary ship “Titanic”. It is based on the real event that took place in the 1912 in the Atlantic ocean. There is also a love story in it between young rich girl Rose and poor boy Jack.  Rose suffering from undesirable marriage wanted to make suicide but Jack prevented it and saved her.  It was the beginning of their love story. The part of Rose was played by Kate Winslet and the role of Jack was played by Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is filled with suspense and emotion. But  their love had not continuation because Titanic hit an iceberg and began to sink. People began to save themselves but there were not enough  safe – boats.   Chaos began, everyone was trying to get to the safe-boat and rescue own life. As a result Jack had no place in the boat and died in the icy water of the Atlantic Ocean. L.Dicaprio and K. Winslet are excellent. The film is filled with vivid special effects. The scenes involving Rose and Jack teach us to appreciate each moments of our life with lover. The main idea of it we can express by such statement: “The most important things such as life, love and dignity for money can not buy.”
  1. How do you think people benefit from doing sports. Importance of doing sports for people. Your favourite sport. What do sports teach us?
Sport is an important part of today’s society and plays a large role in many people’s lives. From a social point of view, sport plays a positive role in uniting people from different social levels when they support their team. It helps people understand each other. However it can divide people when they are funs of the opposite teams. Schools pay much attention to sport education in Ukraine, because it develops physical and mental abilities of schoolchildren. It teaches us how to work as a part of a team and cooperate with others. At the same time it makes us physically strong. From the economic point of view, sport can be very profitable. Large sums of money are often paid to sport event organizers to promote products such as drinks, sport clothes and others. As for me , my favourite kind of sport is swimming. I enjoy swimming very much and I swim rather well. I think this kind of sport is very useful for our health . During the swimming our hands and legs are working hard so the muscles train and become stronger. When swimming I free myself of stress and bad spirit.
  1. Fifty years from now, life will be much easier and healthier for ordinary people than it is today. Do you agree with the statement? Give reasons.
How do you see life in fifty years?
What factors can make life easier?
What difficulties can mankind face?
I do not agree with this statement so today our planet is under serious threat. Every year more and more plants and animals disappear. In many lakes and rivers fish are dying and some lakes have no fish at all. Trees are also in serious danger. The main reason is acid rains. Factories, power station and cars emit tons of smoke into the air. The smoke contains substances which mix with water vapour in atmosphere and form acid. Sunlight turns these acids into poisonous oxidants which fall in rain. Next ecological problem is global warming which can cause the atmosphere to become warmer. As the Earth gets hotter, the ice caps may melt and sea levels may rise. As a result we can simply sink. There is also once more problem such as deforestation. Man’s unrestricted cutting of trees disturbs the natural balance. So if people on the Earth don’t stop pollute and destroy our nature our future life will not be easier and healthier.
  1. Imagine you have been an interesting journey. Speak about your journey. Include the following points.
Where you went and which means of transport you used.
How long you went for and the reason for your journey.
What you did during your stay?
I ‘ve just return from my trip to Great Britain. I stayed there at my friend’s invitation. I went there by plane. It was a wonderful journey. My friend’s family was very hospitable and we had a good time together. We had some interesting trips around England by car. I saw many sights such as Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament. I was really impressed by the sights of Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s official residence.  Tourists always go to see the ceremony of changing of the Guards there. We also visited Oxford and Cambridge, the oldest educational centres of Great Britain. The next place we visited was Scotland, famous for its lakes, mountains and rocks. They are the highest on the British Isles. Then we went to Cardiff , the capital of Wales. There we visited Welsh Folk Museum, National Museum of Wales and the Castle. I enjoyed my trip and I’m still full of impressions.

  1. Websites, magazines, and television shows are free to say anything about celebrities and public figures – even if it’s not true.
  • Is this practice fair?
  • Why is the public so fascinated with the private details of famous people’s lives?
  • Would you be willing to trade privacy for fame? Explain your reasons.

Of course, I think it is unfair to publish articles that contain false information. It may very offend people, of which it is written, and there funs. But newspapers and magazines have the same goal - to interest the reader, and for this they do everything. They try to find something interesting about celebrity, and if this can not be done - they invent something. Very often, these concoctions are a complete nonsense. In the Internet by the way we can see often  such titles as: "He died in a terrible accident ..." "Star couple broke up," etc. How about me, it's dishonest and mean. Everyone has the right to a private life and its secret.
  1. Some people believe that violent films and video games make our society more violent.
  • Do you think there is a connection between violence in the media and violence in real life?
  • Should there be greater restrictions on portraying violence in films and games?
  • Do you enjoy watching films or playing video games that have violent content?
I think that the relationship between the violence in the media and in real life is very closely. The victims of this relationship are teenagers and people with weak mentality. It often happens that under the influence of violent movies teens forming gangs that are attacking ordinary people and rob them. Sometimes even robbery is not their goal, they want to just have fun. This is terrible,  of course,. Violence in games leads to the fact that teenagers are cruel, indifferent to the suffering of others. So I think that the restrictions on the portrayal of violence in movies and games should be. Firstly, the parents themselves must install these restrictions. They must not allow their children to watch violent movies and play games with violence. Unfortunately, not everyone understands it and to buy these games. Why? The answer is simple - to enjoy child. But he or she is a part of our future society. My attitude to violence in movies and games is very  negative.
  1. Social networking websites like Vkontakte and Facebook are incredibly popular, but some are concerned that young people are being too free with their personal information.
  • What information about yourself are you comfortable with sharing on the Internet.
  • Do you think people are being careless about their private lives?
  • What are the possible consequences, good or bad, of so much online sharing?
1. In the United States, it’s common for private schools to accept only boys or only girls.
  • What do you think are the positive aspects of single-sex education? What are the negative aspects?
  • Would you like to attend an all-girls or all-boys school? Why or why not?
  • If a school denied admission to a student based on race, it would be discrimination. How is sex different, if at all?
The results of recent studies of gender differences in education are largely in favour of single-sex schools and opposed to coeducational schools. These studies underline that men and women’s brain are different. Single-sex education not only tends to better academic achievements; it has also been shown to broaden student’s horizons. Boys at single-sex schools were more interested in drama, biology and languages than at coed schools, while girls at girls-only schools were more interested in maths and science. As a consequence the students were not constrained by gender stereotypes; they were freer to explore their own strengths and interests. Single-sex schools break down gender stereotypes. Studies have shown that students in the single-sex schools have a far more positive attitude toward studying than students in coed schools. But what about me, I prefer to study at coeducational school because I do not imagine our school life without our boys.
  1. Some educators value math and science more than the humanities (e.g. literature, music, and history).
  • Why do you think they feel this way and do you agree with them? Explain.
  • What would life be without the arts?
  • Should everyone be required to study them? Why?
It is impossible to say exactly what is more important science and math or humanities  because they are two halves of one whole and can not exist without one another. A person with a broad outlook should have  math skills and at the same time be able to express their thoughts, know about gravity and  who painted the  magic Mona Lisa. If  person is unable to enjoy music, he lose a great opportunity to relax and involve himself in its fairy world. Not knowing the history, people will not be able to build a future, to avoid disputes and crises. Not knowing the languages, it is impossible to be an equal member of the international community. Without reading, we can not expand our vocabulary. It probably caursed  misunderstandings and  appearing difficulties in relations between people, disability to prove own point of view. Because this is so important. It is good, if the student enjoys mathematics, physics or chemistry, but to read books, to know the history of his people, be interested  in music and art, he also must. At least I try to do so.
6.         Stereotypes are generalized descriptions that are said to be true about all members of a certain group.
•          Are stereotypes good or bad? Provide examples.
•          How do they arise and where do they come from?
•          How can they influence people?
As for me stereotype are bad because they hang labels on the people. They influence on our behavior and make us to do things that are not correct in definite situation. For example, there is a gender stereotype that girls are better in humanities and boys are better in science. But according to   the results of recent researches   boys at single-sex schools are more interested in drama, biology and languages than at coed schools, while girls at girls-only schools are more interested in maths and science.  Other example takes place when bad pupil at last decide to rice his educational level and marks but his previous negative experience and stereotypes do not allow to do this. The stereotypes exist a very long period of time and I do not know exactly about their origin but I think that they were born in prehistoric time.

7.         With all the pressures of the modern world, time is an important factor in our lives today. How does time impact your life?
•          Do you have enough time to do all things you’d like to do in your life?
•          How do you prioritize your time to accomplish the things that are most important to you?
•          Do you follow a strict schedule and calendar, or do you “take life as it comes”? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your approach?
In the modern world the proverb “Time is money” is very actual. We can not buy, borrow and sell it. Time is invaluable. And off course time has a huge influence on our lives. It’s pity but we can not stop time. In our busy society the first aim is to learn to manage the time. The person who has such traits of character as well self-organization and punctuality has opportunity to reach this goal. These traits of character also are required by employers when we get a job. That’s why we must follow strict schedule and calendar. Except work, time management is necessary in our daily life.  If we do everything in time we’ll have free time for our family. But it is so difficult to do everything in time. Sometimes we want to be a lazybones and do nothing. But don’t forget modern society does not allow such behavior if you want to reach success, of course.
  1. We all try to avoid illness through healthy daily habits and diets. When we get ill, most of us go to the doctor for advice or prescription medicines.
  • What preventative measures do you take to maintain your health?
  • How do different cultures approach health care? Compare and contrast Ukrainian health care with another culture.
  • In your opinion, do people rely too much on pharmaceuticals?
There are a lot of different problems in our life nowadays. Certainly, this ruins our health. So we must be careful to our health. First of all it is important to eat healthy food and do it regularly. This is because from food we get all vitamins and microelements necessary for our body to feel well. As for me, I try to eat fruit, vegetables, dairy products such as milk, sour cream, cheese, yogurts etc.  I usually have three meals a day. On breakfast I prefer to eat porridge because it is very useful for my health. Except food it is also very important to go in for sport. Sport and physical exercises make us strong and healthy and help us to keep fit. Every morning I do my morning exercises.  In the summer I like to play basketball with my friend and go camping. At last stresses and problems have a great negative influence on our health that’s why I try to be quite and do not worry.
If nevertheless I fall ill I’ll go to the doctor for checkup. The doctor will prescribe me some medicine and I’ll of course follow his advices.  I think we have to buy medicine that was prescribed for us by doctor but sometimes people rely too much on pharmaceuticals and buy medicine without doctor’s prescriptions. It is wrong because pharmaceutical can not define your disease without checkup and analysis.
What about health care in our country I think that Ukrainians pay little attention to their health.

And the level of medical service is very low in Ukraine.
